M Shed Cranes - a brief history and image development

During the 1950s, there were more than 40 cranes lining Bristol's busy docks. This has now been whittled down to the four on the quayside by M Shed that remain as functional monuments to the city's trade links. Three of these electric cranes are still operational and occasionally have weekend displays. A short distance away is the only intact Victorian steam crane in the UK.

Interestingly, from May 27th 2017, crane 29 will be transformed into a temporary 'treehouse hotel' that guests can rent out.
